Low-cost wearable prototype for people with neuromuscular diseases
Currently available wearable technologies using EMG are aimed at healthy, active users trying to quantify their own activities for optimal fitness. By creating low-cost options for people with Myasthenia Gravis, individuals can first have more control over their energy expenditure and conservation as well as muscle use for daily activity, second can use long-term data to help them become stronger over time, and third can monitor progression/regression of their symptoms over time. - LUNGS, 2013-2014
Low-cost remote deployable pollution sensor kits
A collaborative research project with Design, Cultures, & Creativity students that critiques outdoor air pollution policies, first by interrogating how pollution data is collected and analyzed, then by incorporating geo-spatial histories of discrimination, and finally, by creating a prototype for a low-cost, open access sensor kit to enable more informed decision-making by communities in relationship to local, real-time pollution and health. - Approach, 2013
Locative storytelling app that pivots to those on the margins

Approach is a locative storytelling app that pivots to those on the margins. The Approach app guides people around campus using curated audio narratives gathered from oral histories of those who are generally absent from the normative archives. Our first pathways included a student navigating our inaccessible campus in a wheelchair, a Muslim student’s relationship to prayer and her mobile phone, and the campus’s unspoken history with slavery.

Co-designed and developed entire DCC program, including course requirements, individual course goals, and 2 year certificate plan; Taught, mentored, and advised students for 5 years; Created, designed, and ran undergraduate collaborative research working groups to encourage undergraduates to ask large research questions and explore them with a shared set of expectations. Designed 4 new courses including syllabus, lesson planning, lecturing and discussions; Developed multimedia resources, answered questions, developed and assessed student work, evaluated student progress, advised students for capstone projects; Taught cooperative teamwork, brainstorming, and critical thinking skills.
